Boarding Policies for Ruxton Animal Hospital

  • We strive to make your dog’s stay with us as comfortable as possible and we give individual attention to each of our guests. We have spacious indoor runs available for large or extra - large dogs, as well as medium and small cages for our smaller guests.

  • You may bring safe chew toys and treats for your pet(s), but we discourage items such as rawhide chews, pig ears, hooves, stuffed animals, plastic dog beds, and towels.

  • All dogs are leash walked outdoors three times daily in an area adjacent to the hospital. In order to prevent your pet from contracting fleas and ticks on their walks, we recommend administering a flea & tick preventative prior to admission.

  • To ensure the health and safety of your dog, we require that all pets in the boarding area be up to date on the following vaccinations and be free of infectious diseases and parasites. If any of these services are overdue, they will be performed during your pet’s stay at your expense.

    • Yearly Physical

    • Rabies Vaccine

    • Distemper/Parvovirus Vaccine (DHPP)

    • Bordetella Vaccine (kennel cough)

    • Canine Influenza Vaccine (CIV)

    • A negative fecal exam is required within 6 months prior to your pet's stay. If we perform a fecal test during your pet’s stay for any reason and the sample comes back positive, they will be treated at your expense.

  • We highly recommend that all dogs be tested annually for heartworm and tick borne diseases.

  • If fleas, ticks, and/or ear mites are found on your dog upon admission to our facility, appropriate treatment will be performed, at your expense, to prevent the spread of these parasites to other guests in the hospital.

  • Our staff is trained to administer any medications to your dog during their stay. Medications will be given as instructed for an additional daily fee of $7. If your dog is prescribed new medications to be given during his/her stay, this additional daily fee and the cost of the medication will be applied to your account.

  • Should your dog exhibit decreased appetite during their stay, we may add a bland canned diet to their food to entice them to eat. Cost of cans is additional and will be applied to your account.

  • In the event a medical concern is presented during your pets stay, a regular exam will be performed and charged along with any required treatments (see above). We will make every attempt to reach you and the emergency contact provided. However, to ensure the safety and comfort of your pet, we will automatically perform a physical exam and provide the appropriate medical treatment at your expense if we are unable to reach you.

  • For pets who have services requested/due: if you plan to drop your pet off anytime on Saturdays (or Fridays after 2pm if we are closed that Saturday) and you plan to pick up your pet the Monday after, please plan to pick up AFTER 2pm. This allows time for our medical team to complete services before you arrive to pick up.

  • Ruxton Animal Hospital does not offer or provide 24 hour supervision.
